What Employers Must Know About UK Public Holidays

Based on the UK Working Time Regulations 1998, the employer must notify employees of 5.6 weeks total of holiday leaves each year. When they are managing employee leave based on the variable work hours, employers must use 12 weeks reference so they can work out the right holiday pay. Specifically, it must be the average salary of what the employee received in the past 12 weeks. It is how their leave pay will be determined.

Some religious-based holidays have a very subtle celebration like having morning services in the place of worship, and then the main celebration comes in the afternoon. In the UK, Christians usually celebrate Christmas, Good Friday, and Easter. During Christmas, most of the retail stores and offices will be closed. It is also said in the law that shops must be closed on Easter Sunday.
