Benefits of Working on a Public Holiday
If businesses require local employees to work on a public holiday, employees have the right to receive a daily pay rate of 100% surcharge. If workers are needed to work on public holidays without an alternative rest day, workers can receive an additional 100% daily pay rate. This means any employee required to work on a public holiday with no rest day given later; they are entitled to 3 times their regular pay rate. Another unique benefit for employees in Peru is that if Labour Day falls on a mandatory weekly rest day, employers are to pay an additional daily pay rate. This mandatory weekly rest day is usually Sunday, but it can also be any other day granted and agreed by both parties.
