What Employers Must Know About Kazakhstan Public Holiday

According to the rule, it is forbidden to work on holidays, except when work must not be interrupted due to production or technical reasons because uninterrupted service must be provided.

Based on the law, employees must have 18 calendar days of annual paid leave. The first one must be taken after they have been working in the company for one year. Employees can choose to split their vacation.

Those who are engaged in heavy manual work or toxic conditions may be given additional annual paid leave.

The procedures and conditions of the annual paid leave grant must be written in the employment contract and collective agreement. Annual leave cannot be withheld for two straight years.

Employee Benefits Working on Holidays

In five working days, employers must have two days off. If a week has six days, they get one day off. Employees are normally using their weekly rest during Sunday.

Employees who are asked to work on weekends must be given an alternative day of rest or must be paid not less than 1 ½ times the amount of their daily rate. A collective agreement can stipulate a higher premium rate.

If the holiday coincides on another holiday, the day off will be the next working day. If it falls on a weekend, it will be observed the following Monday.

Employers must give female employees paid maternity leave. Nursing parents have additional breaks at least every three hours for feeding their children.
