Businesses are mostly closed during the major public holiday 2019 in Belize. Local employees would usually plan for their holidays for several days in advance. Business owners are advised to plan workloads to make way for public holidays similarly. Although most of Belize shuts down during the major celebration, some businesses or occupations are required to continue as usual. As such, local employees working during public holidays are obliged to receive additional wages for their duties. This is primarily during Christmas, Good Friday and Easter Monday, employees should receive double their hourly or daily pay rate. On all other holidays, employees are to receive their regular pay and one half more. Otherwise, for employers that pay by the job must provide an average day’s pay for their employees.
